About Us

City Tutors was founded by a group of educational professionals, both university lecturers and school teachers, in the belief that, while courses and programmes of study must be followed and tests and examinations taken, while the highest standards must be sought, successful learning starts with the individual.

Our Approach

Individualised Learning

We begin with an assessment of the student’s strengths, weaknesses, and preferred learning styles.  Precise individual needs are then identified. This may involve focus on the students’ grade level objectives, providing additional practice with particular skills, or with exam technique, filling in lessons missed in classroom instruction, or helping the student grasp new concepts introduced at school, college or university. The goals to be pursued will be specific and achievable. In our experience, this will result in progress and improved grades.

A Personal  Tutor

We use this information to choose the best tutor for the student.

All our tutors are employed by City Tutors. They may be school-teachers or university lecturers, other professionals with large experience in their subject, or involved in research. Some come from the country’s leading universities; some have had long careers in schools.

All are carefully selected, and an assessment made of their teaching. They are highly qualified in their area of expertise. All share our approach to learning. They have good communication and listening skills; they can enthuse students; they can develop student confidence. They are familiar with the demands of studying today for SAT’s  and on school and university courses. They are professionals to whom students can relate comfortably.

Feedback

It is important that students reflect on what they have done and set themselves goals for future development. We get feedback from all our students about their strengths and weaknesses after tuition and help them to set goals for further improvement.
